Common questions

Is Ember really a one-time purchase?

Yes. Pay once, use forever. No subscription, no auto-renewal. You'll see "Ember Pro Lifetime" as a one-time IAP in your purchase receipt.

What happens after the 14-day trial?

You can still:

• Read all entries you've already written
• Export everything as Markdown + photos, or as PDF
• Use Face ID lock

You can't:

• Write new entries (until you unlock Pro)

How is my data protected?

Every entry — text, photos, location, mood, tags — is encrypted on your iPhone with AES-GCM via Apple CryptoKit. The encryption key lives in your iOS Keychain, hardware-backed by the Secure Enclave. Ember has no servers; we cannot read your data.

If you turn on iCloud Sync, encrypted blobs travel through your private iCloud database. Apple stores the bytes but doesn't have the key.

What if I lose my iPhone?

If iCloud Keychain is on (default), your encryption key syncs to your other Apple devices, and you can install Ember on a new iPhone and pick up where you left off.
